Review of V. A. Soifer's work in the field of statistical communication theory

The paper reviews the works of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences V. A. Soifer produced in the 70s of the last century and devoted to the development of statistical communication theory. The author analyses the significance of these works for the current development of the theory and practice of telecommunications.
