Improvement of performance characteristics of shunting diesel locomotives

The use of a hybrid power unit with a traction switched reluctance motors (SRM) on the shunting locomotive is proposed to significantly reduce fuel consumption. The paper presented the simulation model of a shunting locomotive based on ChME3. Replacement of the existing electromechanical system using DC machines as a feed generator and traction motors with new types of electrical machines - synchronous generator and valve-inductor motors, will allow to increase the efficiency, reliability and maintainability of the locomotive system as a whole. Unique traction properties of the valve-inductor motors ensure their trouble-free replacement of the motors used while improving the quality of the control process of the main drive parameters such as current, torque and velocity. The most important component of safe operation of modern complex electromechanical systems is their electromagnetic compatibility both inside the system and with external objects. Under the railway environment, when the power plant control system may have an impact on the central locking and communication systems (switches, traffic lights, crossings, etc.), an important prerequisite for reliable operation is to obtain circuit solutions to avoid undesirable effects on external facilities. That is what is offered as a closed-loop control system with self-contained power supplies.
