Simulation and Control of Cross-Wind Stability of Vehicles Exiting and Entering Tunnels

For vehicles entering and exiting the tunnel at high speed under strong crosswinds, the aerodynamic load received will change drastically, which will greatly affect the lateral stability of the vehicle. STAR-CCM + was used to establish a cross-wind flow field simulation model for vehicles entering and exiting the tunnel, which was Co-simulated and analyzed with an 8-degree-of-freedom vehicle model. On this basis, an active front wheel steering (AFS) control system model was established and a comparative simulation was conducted. The simulation results show that under the condition of loading active front wheel steering (AFS), the parameters such as sideslip angle and yaw rate decrease obviously when the vehicle enters and exits the tunnel under the action of crosswind. The crosswind stability of the vehicle has been improved.
