Zero-Sequence Current Suppression with Dead-Time Compensation Control in Open-End Winding PMSM

In this paper, the zero-sequence current control method by dead-time control is proposed. When controlling the open-end winding PMSM with zero-sequence voltage eliminated voltage vectors, there is not a method to suppress the zero-sequence current caused by the dead time effect. Although attempting to reduce this effect through the general dead time compensation method, it is impossible to suppress zero-sequence current due to dead-time non-linearity ideally. Therefore, in this paper, the proposed method uses not only general dead-time compensation but also active control of dead time compensation for generating controllable zero-sequence voltage. A simulation is conducted to implement the proposed method. Furthermore, it is verified by experiments using 2.1kW open-end winding PMSM in the low power that has severe dead time non-linearity and rated power.
