Three-Phase Multilevel Flying Capacitor Rectifier With Reduced Switch Count

Rectifier topologies with reduced switch count can be employed in unidirectional power flow applications. These configurations have the advantages of less necessary drive circuits, since some power switches are replaced by diodes, high reliability and higher efficiency. Following this trend, the present work proposes a three-phase multilevel AC/DC Flying Capacitor (FC) converter with reduced switch count. This structure is achieved by replacing two switches of each leg of the traditional FC converter by diodes. The operation analysis of the proposed topology is presented as well as simulation results to validate the theoretical approach.
