Optimization and Design of Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Power Plant under Various Operating Conditions

Solar Photovoltaic systems are been widely used now a days in both Grid-connected mode and standalone mode of operation. Hence proper designing of Photovoltaic system is the need of the hour. In this research grid-connected Rooftop solar PV system is designed by using System Advisor Model (SAM) & Solar Edge Software by considering different operating conditions like weather conditions, shadow effect, and tilt angle, etc. By using these simulation software, one can optimize the sizing of Photovoltaic modules, design strings/inverters, perform feasibility analysis, and reduce the time of computation/design without physically visiting the site. And also an existing rooftop solar plant in the Main Block Building of College of Engineering and Technology Bhubaneswar has been redesigned, and it is found that more power can be generated in the same space of the roof. In the second part of this research, it has optimized the overall losses by designing with various parameters which affect the efficiency of the system. The estimated energy production throughout the year, energy losses due to various reasons can be found after the end of the design. The estimated energy production has found by importing ten years of solar radiation data into the design which has been taken with latitude and longitude of the designed site.
