Investigation of Buffer less Cu2ZnSnS4 Based Solar Cell

Cadmium Sulphide ( CdS) is a prominent buffer layer used in various kesterite based solar cells. However, toxicity of CdS has created an urgent need to search for alternate buffer layers. In this work, Cu

ZnSnS
₄
(CZTS) based solar cell, is simulated using SCAPS-1D software, by removing CdS buffer layer, to reduce toxicity and increase efficiency of the solar cell, simultaneously. Aluminium doped ZnO is used as a transparent conducting layer along with Mg-ZnO which acts as both buffer and window layer. The swapping of CdS by Mg-ZnO has been done to investigate the open-circuit voltage, short circuit current density, fill factor, and efficiency of the solar cell. The efficiency of 12.16% has been confirmed using this new buffer less CZTS based solar cell.
