Performance Analysis of HVDC Lines Using Surge Arrester

The paper shows a comparative harmonic analysis with surge arrester as well as without surge arrester at the inverter side for LCC (Line Commutated Converter) based HVDC system. Harmonic analysis has been done based on both conditions i.e. with and without surge arrester. The voltage, current as well as threshold values are analysed and it is compared for two conditions. With the help of FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) analysis, better comparison results are obtained. A DC line connecting the two three-phase sources has a length of 800 km. With the help of Matlab/Simulink, the results have been obtained.
