Effect of Laser Polarization Mode on Wake Wave Excitation in Magnetized Plasma

A numerical calculation to study the effect of laser pulse polarization on the strength of the axial wakefield in a magnetized plasma has been presented. The influence of different laser polarization, including linear (ordinary wave), elliptic (extraordinary wave), and right- and left-hand circular polarization on the wake wave amplitude, has been evaluated for various values of laser and plasma frequency at a fixed cyclotron frequency. Comparing the results, it is found that an extraordinary laser wave can excite the largest wake wave amplitude. The upper-hybrid wakefield is in the order of E
_w
≈ 70 GV/m, which, under appropriate conditions, is generated by an elliptic Gaussian laser pulse with a relatively low intensity (a
₀
= 0.3).
