Effect of Pre-Enhancement on False-Rejection Cases of Fingerprint Verification System

We investigated false-rejection problems of the active fingerprint verification system. We found that the system denies persons who own his/her identities because of his/her improper impression conditions, growth conditions, and skin conditions. These false-rejection problems resulted in a time-delay, human assistance requirement, and further investigation. We performed fingerprint pre-enhancement to improve the quality of input to alleviate these false-rejection problems. We employed five fingerprint enhancement algorithms from previously published works and one from the industry for the possibility of reducing the rejection rate. The experimental results show that the enhancement method from the industry can maximally reduce the rejection rate by 22%.
