Power Factor Correction and Torque Ripple Reduction In SRM Drive Based On Vienna-Type Rectifier

In this paper, a single-phase three-level Vienna rectifier is utilized as a front-end converter for a switched reluctance motor drive (SRM). Vienna rectifier is capable of increasing power factor (PF) up to unity and improving the input current quality. Also, it can provide a boosted DC-link voltage. Vienna rectifier provides a dual-output terminal to separate magnetizing and demagnetizing terminals in SRM, so applying higher voltage during demagnetization instance is attainable. As a result, the phase current decreases sooner, and negative torque generation is prevented. Moreover, an on-line angle control is implemented to modify turn on and off angles, to reduce torque ripple and transfer more power during the magnetizing instance. The proposed control system consisting of angles control, speed control, and average current control is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink. The results confirm the suitability of the Vienna rectifier as a satisfactory addition for SRM drive.
