Optimal Allocation of Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) and Thyristor-Controlled Phase-Shifting Transformer (TCPST)

The development of FACTs devices raises concerns about their installation for better controllability and voltage stability enhancement in the power sector. This paper proposed an Ageist Spider Monkey Optimization (ASMO) algorithm and a fuzzy logic-based approach to seek the optimal locations and sizing of Thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) and Thyristor-controlled phase-shifting transformer (TCPST) to improve the voltage stability margin and decrease active and reactive power losses in the power sector. Attributes of aforesaid FACTS devices are also compared on the basis of the proposed algorithm. Membership values of variables defined in diverse objectives can be determined by a quarter cosine fuzzy membership function. The application of the proposed method has been investigated on standard IEEE 30 and 118-bus systems.
