Sleep Monitoring using Laser Blood Flowmeter

The aim of this paper is to measure cerebral blood flow for monitoring the different sleep stages by using noninvasive Laser blood flowmetry technique. This helps in identifying the sleep stages of living organism. The blood flow rate in living organism changes with change in sleep stages from Non Rapid Eye Movement to Rapid Eye Movement. The quantity and quality of sleep can be measured precisely by measuring the cerebral blood flow accurately. The major challenge is the requirement of noninvasive blood flowmeter to measure the blood flow rate of organism without disturbing their natural sleep. A new optical interferometric system has been designed to get flow rate measurement for real continuous monitoring of sleep. The samples used are equivalent to blood in terms of viscosity, concentration and particle size. The functioning of this optical blood flowmeter instrumentation is satisfactory and acceptable.
