Bandwidth Enhancement of Trapezoid Antenna Using an Open F-rotated and I-shaped Slots Defected Ground Structures (DGS)

In this letter we present a novel UWB micro-strip antenna with defected ground structure (DGS). The initial design consists of a simple trapezoid patch with worse impedance matching. The study made use of an open F-rotated and I-shaped slots DGS in the ground plane to excite an additional resonance frequencies and to produce a wider impedance bandwidth, resulting a broad bandwidth covering the frequency ranges of 3.85 - 13GHz suitable for FCC communication (3.1-10.6GHz ) and IEEE X-band application (8-12GHz) . The design and performances of this structure are analyzed by using both the CST Microwave and HFSS 3-D solver and measured after fabrication by applying ZVB 20-Vector Network Analyzer 20MHz-20GHz to validate the simulation results.
