Modeling and Verification of Truck Handling Model due to Steering Wheel Input

This paper presents the modeling of a 3-DOF of truck handling model due to steering wheel input by driver. The study includes load distribution, tire, steering and handling models with the functions of longitudinal slip angle and lateral slip angle to simulate the truck behaviors. All the mathematical equations are presented in this paper and developed the truck model is using MATLAB-Simulink software. Next, model responses are then verified against the responses obtained from the TruckSim using two handling tests namely double and single lane change tests. Finally, the results of developed model are compared to TruckSim results in terms of trend, magnitude similarities and percentage of difference. Verification results show that, the simulation model developed produces a similar trend with TruckSim, and can be used to further studies the behaviors of truck dynamics in any cases.
