Novel Traveling Wave Detection Method based on VMD-S Transform in Distribution Network

Aiming at the complex operation environment in distribution network and the problem existing in Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) and S-transform methods of traveling wave detection, a traveling wave detection scheme based on variational mode decomposition (VMD)-S transform is proposed in this paper. It solves the problem of mode mixing and endpoint effect in empirical mode decomposition (EMD) process, and the problem that the detection ability of traveling wave signal decreases when S-transform is disturbed by strong noise. It can accurately identify the arrival time of the initial traveling wave head. The simulation is built in ATP/EMTP, and the results show that, compared with HHT and S-transform, the proposed detection method has better anti-jamming effect under strong noise conditions.
