A Wideband, Single-Layer Reflectarray antenna Exploiting a Polarization Conversion Element

We present a design of wideband, single-layer reflectarray antenna by using reflection elements operating in linear cross-polarization scheme. The split ring element can maintain high polarization conversion rate and approximately linearly phase properties at ultra-wide bandwidth. Moreover, the phase and amplitude of cross-polarized reflection can be separately controlled by its split angle and rotation angle, and the phase covers over 360 degrees. Based on these properties of the element, a reflectarray with central frequency at 15 GHz is designed, which has an aperture dimension of 120 mm ×120 mm and a focal length of 84 mm. And the designed refelctarray antenna is demonstrated to have 3 dB gain bandwidth of 61%, ranging from 10.8 GHz to 20.3 GHz.
