Real Time Simulation of a Switched Reluctance Motor on a Miniature Full Spectrum Simulator

This paper deals with the mathematical modelling and performance analysis of a 4 phase 4kW 1500 RPM 8/6 switched reluctance motor (SRM) with an accurate modelling of phase inductance profile. The analytically determined inductance profile is compared with that obtained by FEM simulation and they are found to be in very good agreement. This mathematical model has been used for extensive real time simulation (RTS) of the motor on a miniature full spectrum simulator(FSS-Mini) set-up. The paper also presents a novel closed loop speed control strategy which comprises an outer speed control loop followed by an inner current control loop. The controller gains being dependent on electrical parameters (resistance and variable phase inductance) of the motor, have been determined analytically.
