Development of reversal alarm monitoring device on the reactor coolant pump in TNPS

For the needs that add reversal monitoring and alarm feature to reactor coolant pump of TNPS Unit 1&2, this article analyze the basic measuring principle of several frequently used reversal detector and compare their advantages and disadvantages, chose the most suitable hall sensors for the site condition through comprehensive comparison, then combine with the full-scope digital instrument and control (I&C) system to implement reversal monitoring and alarm device. Practice proved that the device can accurately detect the reversal of reactor coolant pump and raise an alarm to remind operator take response measures at time. This study significantly reduces the risk of motor damage and provides reference for the other similar important rotating equipment's state monitoring.
