On the Application of Algebraic Graph Theory to Modeling Network Intrusions

Graph theory is a well-established method for modeling a wide range of connected systems. It has been applied to modeling computer networks, neurological systems, social connections, and other interconnected subjects. However, current methods that apply graph theory to network forensics have not fully explored algebraic graph theory. Current systems have utilized graph theory primarily for its descriptive power. This paper proposes a robust application of algebraic graph theory to facilitate a deeper understanding of network forensics and intrusions. The concept is how one analyzes a network intrusion forensically. This means after the incident occurs, how graph theory can be applied to gain a more complete understanding of the event.
