Contactless Energy Transfer for Inductive Electrically Excited Synchronous Machines

In this paper several system topologies for the operation of electrically excited synchronous machines with inductive energy transfer instead of slip rings are presented. In a first step, the advantages of electrically excited synchronous machines in the automotive sector are shown. Secondly, influences between the contactless energy transfer system and the rotor winding are presented. The paper shows several energy transfer topologies to operate and control the machine, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. In the end a presentation of a demonstrator suitable for a single digit kilowatt excitation is shown.
