Kinematic Modeling and Analysis of a 6 DOF Parallel Machining Bed

Machining is a process in which raw material is transformed into desired shape and size by using different operations. Technologies used in modern day industries allow the material to remove very quickly as a result of high spindle speeds. These high speed spindles are vulnerable to internal and external vibrations. Due to vibrations, the accuracy and precision of the work piece is compromised. To tackle this problem decrease in degree of freedom of tool is desired. Hence, we propose a six degree of freedom machining bed. The work piece to be machined will be placed on the machining bed and the tool will remain static. The machining bed is able to produce three rotational and three translational motions. This paper presents the kinematic analysis of the proposed machining bed. A number of tests then verify the kinematic model and advantage of the proposed configuration for better machining.
