Performance Analysis of VLC system using Commercially Available Components

Theoretical bandwidth that Visible light communication (VLC) offers is 200 THz (155-700nm) which is license free, secure and has no Electromagnetic Interference. So, VLC can be deployed as alternate option for high speed communication in 5G, Wireless sensor network (WSN), underwater communication, wireless body area network and IOT (internet of things). There are however, some practical impediments to achieve high data rate that VLC offers which originates from commercially available electronic components i.e. Light emitting diode (LED) as source, Photodiode as receiver and Op AMP as Transimpedance amplifier (TIA) used to establish a VLC system. This work discusses the best combination of commercially available VLC component (LEDs, LED drivers and photodiodes) to acquire optimum bandwidth (high data rate) and long-range communication for VLC. The results of different combination are compared and presented in terms of Intensity and Rise time against different frequencies.
