Analysis of the Effect of Obstacle on the Fields in Vertically Polarized Bounded Wave EMP Simulator

The hybrid technique of three-dimensional FDTD method and perfectly magnetic conductor (PMC) mirror method is used to analyze the effect of the obstacle on the electric field in vertically polarized bounded wave electromagnetic pulse (EMP) simulator. The obstacle is made up of scaffold structure and hanging metal mesh in this paper. The computing results agree well with the experimental results. The results with different relative location of obstacle and simulator are also presented. The results show that if the obstacle has some shading effect during the electromagnetic waves spread from the simulator source to the distributed load, the fields in the simulator will be affected by the obstacle, otherwise the fields will be almost unchanged.
