Three-Symbol Spatial Modulation for High Speed Railway Wireless Mobile Communication

In this paper, a novel multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) spatial modulation (SM) technology based on traditional SM and double spatial modulation (DSM) technology, which is called three-symbol spatial modulation (TSSM) technique, is proposed for high speed railway (HSR) wireless mobile communication systems. In the proposed TSSM scheme, TSSM technology is adopted and one or two modulation symbols can be applied to transmit information bit through one or two active antennas in the different time slot at the base station (BS). The maximum likelihood (ML) detector is used for detecting the correct modulation symbols index (SI) and antenna index (AI) on the train. The maximum data rate (MDR), receiver computational complexity (RCC) and bit error rate (BER) performance of the TSSM system under HSR wireless mobile communication scenario are analyzed, verified and discussed. Theoretical analysis and simulation results indicate that the proposed TSSM scheme has significant improvement in the MDR compared to SM and its RCC greatly reduced compared to DSM with MDR is almost not decrease. The proposed scheme TSSM is able to achieve a good compromise between the performance of MDR, RCC and BER for HSR wireless mobile communication systems.
