Influence of Molecular Hydrogen Loading on Luminescent Properties of Heavily Er3+-doped Silica Optical Fibers

The experimental study of the influence of 193 nm UV irradiation on the luminescence kinetics of the hydrogen loaded and unloaded Er
³
+-doped active optical fibers with and without aluminum codoping is presented. The significant difference between such influence on the luminescence kinetics of Al codoped and not codoped fibers with different Er
³
+ concentration is shown. The possible nature of this difference is explained by the different environment of Er
³
+ active centers in these fibers, resulting in different mechanisms of luminescence quenching.
