An Improved Markov Model for Impulsive Noise over Automotive Power Line Communication Network

Impulsive noise can have a great influence on the performance of in-vehicle power line communication systems. This paper presents an improved Markov chain model for impulsive noise modeling which can effectively reproduce the bursty nature of impulses. The proposed model is based on statistical analysis of the long-term measurements from the in-vehicle power distribution networks. First, the statistical properties regarding all impulse parameters, namely amplitude, duration, interval time and symbol, are explored. Then, four transition probability matrices based on Markov chain model are established. Finally, a process of reconstructing the impulsive noise with the four transition matrices is developed. Experiment results show that the proposed model is well suited for the description and modeling of the time and spectral behavior of impulsive noise.
