Experiment and Simulation of the Accuracy of Current Transformer with a New Core Material

Many user loads vary widely, and the rated current of the metering current transformer is set according to the full load current. The actual current used may be much lower than 20% of the rated current of the transformer, or even less than 1%. This will result in inaccurate metering of electricity bills. The development of a transformer that can accurately measure when the primary current is much lower than the rated current of the transformer is an urgent need for the current grid electricity metering. In this paper, the current transformer made of a new core material is simulated and tested. The study found that the current transformer error of the new core material is smaller. This is because it has a large initial permeability and a saturation permeability. In the range of 0.1% to 0.5% of the rated current, its accuracy can reach 0.1.
