Slot Coupled Directional Wideband Millimeter-Wave Antenna

A wideband millimeter-wave (mm-wave) antenna using cavity and slot coupling techniques is presented in this paper. The bandwidth of the created mm-wave antenna is expanded by loading a circular patch over the C-shaped patch via a slot coupling, in which the circular patch is fed by slot coupling. The copper cavity-backed structure is utilized to provide stable directional radiation characteristics. The wideband mm-wave antenna is printed on RT/Duroid 5880 substrate, and the simulation results show that the mm-wave antenna can achieve a wide bandwidth of 46.2% (33.8-54.1GHz). The proposed mm-wave antenna has good directional radiation characteristics and small size, rendering it useful in many wireless communication systems.
