Synchronized Current Phasor Control for Islanded Microgrids

Microgrid has been studied widely as an important technology for the integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES), and is deemed as a solution of 100% renewable penetration. To avoid the common problem on frequency stability of existing microgrid control, this paper proposes a Synchronized Current Phasor Control (SCPC) strategy for islanded microgrid control, which uses GPS synchronous signals to realize the in-phase and fixed frequency output current for each RES. The current magnitude of each RES is regulated in distribution according to its own terminal voltage by an I-V droop curve, and thus both active power demand and reactive power demand of the loads are met by maintaining the voltage profile. With the proposed control strategy, the entire microgrid can be considered as a DC system with an AC form with simple control and robust characteristics. Simulations are conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method with steady state operation, active and reactive power load change.
