Erosion Mechanism and Simulation Analysis of Wind Turbine Blade Coating

The wind turbine blade coating has an important protective effect on the blade base material of the wind turbine and improves the smoothness of the blade surface. But wind turbine blades are often eroded by wind sand in wind sand environment. For the study on the mechanism of sand particles impacting on the wind turbine blade coating, the model of sand particle impacting on the wind turbine blade coating has been built in ANSYS. The change of the equivalent stress on the surface of the coating and the shape appearance of the impact pit and the erosion rate of coating have been analyzed by sand particle with different particle sizes and different speeds impacting on the coating at different angles. The analysis results show that: when the sand particle impacts on the coating at the same velocity at different angles, the equivalent stress on the surface of the coating increases first and then decreases; when the smaller size sand particle impacts on the coating at lower wind speed, the equivalent stress on the surface of the coating is not more than the yield strength of the coating and only elastic deformation occurs on the surface of the coating; in the process of impact, different impact morphologies are formed on the surface of the coating due to different particle shapes; with the same impact angle and impact velocity, the erosion rate of the material increases linearly with the increase of the impact times. The results of this paper will provide some reference for reducing the erosion and wear of the blade coating and the design of the blade coating.
