High FAM83A Expression is a Novel Prognostic Indicator of Poor Overall Survival in Lung Adenocarcinoma

Distinct subtypes of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSLSC) vary differently in sites of origin, histologies, genetic changes. To explore the potential prognostic value of family with sequence similarity 83A (FAM83A) in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), we investigated the association of the expression of FAM83A and survival of NSLSC patients using CCLE, FireBrowse, UCSC Xena browser, cBioPortal, Kaplan-Meier Plotter and DAVID. We revealed that FAM83A expression was significantly higher in LUADs than in LUSCs. Increased FAM83A expression was associated with poor overall survival (OS) in LUAD, but not in LUSC. DNA amplification was associated with increased FAM83A expression, as well as significantly worse over survival and disease-free survival in LUAD. Among 22 genes co-expressed with FAM83A in LUAD and 95 genes co-expressed with FAM83A in LUSC, only 4 genes were present in the overlapping cluster. Some of the genes related biological processes and molecular functions in LUAD were not observed in LUSC. These results showed that FAM83A expression might serve as a prognostic indicator of unfavorable OS in LUAD.
