Harmonics Reduction in Microgrids using APF with Fuzzy Controller

This paper investigates the integrated control strategies to handle and improve abrupt fluctuations in power electronics devices in the Distributed Energy Resources (DER). Microgrid is an important concept in DER and it has to maintain reliability in the system. Shunt active power filter based Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) converter is implemented to control current and voltage distortion. An adaptive fuzzy controlled current compensation technique is used for harmonics and reactive power in 3-phase 4-wire microgrid distribution system. This paper also presents detailed model of Solar PV array with Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control as well as battery interface in grid-connected mode. The paper considers the effect of change in irradiance, Battery State of Charge (SOC) constraint and voltage control. Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) and Proportional-Integral (PI) technique is implemented and results are compared. Simulation results are determined by using transient and steady state operating conditions. Simulations are carried out in Matlab SimPowerSystem to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method.
