Methodology to Test Automotive Electrical Components to Wideband Pulse Interferences

This article presents a global methodology to test components (equipment) on table test bench with representative interferences found on vehicle simulation in case of wideband modulated pulse interferences. The proposed method consists, first, of using an electromagnetic three-dimensional simulation model of the vehicle already validated to quickly determine time-domain waveforms of the common-mode current at any load connected at the end of a copper wire located inside the vehicle under wideband modulated pulse interferences. The second step of the method consists of showing that representative interference waveforms obtained by simulation can be reinjected into a component under test using conducted injection means usually used for electromagnetic compatibility tests in automotive industry in order to cover vehicle tests in case of Wideband/Mesoband modulated pulse interferences.
