Hydrogen peroxide chemiresistive detection platform with wide range of detection

Hydrogen peroxide is an intermediate molecule that can be used to detect numerous other analytes using peroxidase assays. Methods for detection of hydrogen peroxide can be broadly classified into colorimetric or electrochemical. Colorimetric methods require reagents while electrochemical methods require reference electrodes, both of which make sensing complicated. As an alternative, in this paper, we demonstrate a reliable, simple, reagent free solid state chemiresistive sensor for hydrogen peroxide detection. The chemiresistor is composed of a drop casted carbon nanotube film with two parallel carbon ink contact electrodes. Carbon nanotube electrode is functionalized with phenyl capped aniline tetramer (PCAT). This sensor was able to sense over a wide range of concentrations from 3 ppm to 1200 ppm. Further, we also demonstrate that this sensor can be employed in a peroxidase assay to detect biomolecules such as glucose by adding the appropriate enzyme.
