Numerical Modeling of Artificial Surface Cracks in Eddy-Current Non-Destructive Evaluation

This article deals with numerical modeling of artificial notches with varying geometry and electromagnetic properties. Austenitic stainless steel (AISI 316L) is investigated with the presence of volumetric surface cracks. Eddy-current inspection is applied under harmonic excitation. Huge parametric analysis is performed to investigate the behavior of selected parameters on the resulting eddy-current signal. Finite element method implemented in the commercial Opera software (by Vector Fields) is used for this purpose. The obtained results are presented and discussed in the paper.
