Optimum Design and Techno Economic Analysis of Hybrid Renewable Energy System for Rural Electrification- A Case Study

This paper demonstrates the optimum design and techno economic assessment of HRE (hybrid renewable energy) system for rural electrification to meet out electrical needs in the remote district Korkadu UT of Puducherry, India. The renewable resources namely solar photovoltaic, wind turbine and bio-diesel generators are considered as the main power resources for HRES design, because of its high potential in the Korkadu district. This paper estimates the load of the selected district which is mixed of different load patterns. The optimum design and techno economic analysis of proposed (PV/wind/biomass) hybrid power generation system is carried using the powerful tool (HOMER). This study also compares the proposed off-grid HRES electrification solution with utility grid extension expense in post HOMER analysis. The outcome of the proposed research work shows the hybrid renewable energy based power generation at autonomous mode can be a cost effective alternative to the sustainable power systems.
