From an environmental perspective, when performing internal arc tests on SF

-insulated power equipment, SF

may be replaced with air in accordance with the International Electrotechnical Commission standard. To develop an alternative method for internal arc testing in SF6-insulated power equipment, a specific procedure must be proposed to replace SF
₆
with air and select appropriate test parameters. Therefore, we have systematically obtained the experimental and analytical data of air and SF
₆
arcs to calculate the pressure rise in electric power equipment and the thermal effect of hot gas on the surroundings. The modeling of SF
₆
-air and air-air flows is implemented using computational fluid dynamics to analyze the characteristics of pressure rise and exhausted hot gas due to internal arc faults in SF
₆
-insulated power equipment.
