The application of autonomous drones in the environment of overhead lines

In order to ensure the safety of electric power supply it is necessary to keep the electric network in good condition. For this reason the periodical inspection is essential. By presenting some possible damages in practice, this paper shows the importance of overhead lines inspection. To fulfill this requirement the application of drones is recommended, but in a way that much bigger priority is given to autonomous drones in comparison to remote controlled ones. The paper also advises the implementation of the equation of the conductor curve in the process of planning the trajectory of the autonomous drone used for inspection of an overhead line. As it consists of a lot of different spans, the trajectory of a drone has to follow the conductor curves in each span of an overhead line which has to be inspected. The development of drones grows rapidly nowadays due to their wide applicability in the environment of overhead lines.
