Magnetic Unbalance and Thrust Ripple Reduction Design for Novel PMLSM with Halbach Consequent Pole

This paper focuses on the thrust ripple suppression of novel Halbach consequent pole permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (HCP-PMLSM). HCP-PMLSM with special pole-slot combination is investigated in detail by extensive finite element analysis (FEA). It is confirmed that the magnetic unbalance, including cogging force and back-EMF even-order harmonics, could be effectively offset. Moreover, the geometry of end-teeth is optimized by Taguchi method to reduce end force. It is shown that the thrust ripple is suppressed to a quite low value in all load conditions by the aforesaid procedure.
