Model Predictive Control of a Twelve-Phase PMSM with Simplified Cost Function

Model predictive control (MPC) has attracted increasing attention in multiphase motor control, especially dual three-phase and five-phase motors. In this paper, a MPC strategy for current control of a twelve-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with simplified cost function is presented. By only evaluating the 24 largest and 1 zero voltage vectors instead of 4096, the number of iterations is reduced heavily. Moreover, a simplified cost function is developed to cut down two weighting factors resulting from the request of eliminating the harmonic currents in three x-y sub-planes. Hence, the computation cost is further decreased. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.
