Portable, Wireless Wearable Piezoelectric Arterial Pulse Monitoring System Based on Near-Field Communication Approach

In this letter, near-field communication technology is combined with the piezoelectric arterial pulse sensing for the first time, which provides a flexible, wireless and batteryless cutaneous activities monitoring approach. Lead zirconatetitanate piezoelectric film obtained by mechanical thinning process is used as the key functional layer for dynamic sensing in consideration of its high electromechanical coupling factor (k
₃₁
). The piezoelectric force sensor attached on a skin-like surface performs at sensitivities of 1.775, 6.358 and 8.117 V/N under the applied frequency of 0.5, 2 and 5 Hz, respectively. In practical monitoring, the sensor can accurately reflect the arterial pulse responses. Finally, the feasibility of near field communication strategy for this piezoelectric force sensor is demonstrated. A portable application strategy is provided for this system. This study provides a portable, wireless and accurate arterial pulse monitoring strategy.
