A Design of Metamaterials MIMO Antenna for Millimeter Wave Application

In this study, a new design of single and array antenna for millimeter-wave, specifically for fifth generation (5G) mobile-phone application has been presented and discussed. The proposed structure consists of an array of slot-loop structure as a radiator which is printed on the top layer of the FR-4 epoxy substrate with a relative permittivity of 4.4 and in order to enhance the antenna array performances we propose to print a Metamaterials Split Ring Resonator, called SRR, on the bottom layer of the substrate. The proposed structure is optimized to achieve a large bandwidth from 28 GHz to 36 GHz and a resonance frequency of 34 GHz with a peak of return Loss of -18 dB. Moreove, the efficiency and the radiation pattern of the antenna are performed by adding the metamaterials to be 90% and 5 dB, respectively.
