Improvements of GPM DPR Rain type Classification Algorithm

The classification (CSF) module of the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Dual-Frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) algorithm V6, which was released in October 2018, classifies rain type into three major categories: stratiform, convective, and other. The main difference between the CSF module V6 and that of V5 is our introducing to V6 CSF module the reclassification of convective type to stratiform type by a method developed by the University of Washington. It is found, however, the V6 introduced reclassification needs improvement. This paper discusses possible improvements of the CSF module.
