Methodology for Analysis of the Impact of Residential Charging of Electric Vehicles

The analysis of the impacts of electric vehicles (EVs) on the electric power distribution system is essential to achieve the correct and effective dissemination of this means of transportation. Regarding that, the main objective of this research work is the development of a methodology to analyze the technical impact of different types of EV charging, considering different levels of integration in system. In this sense, this paper brings information for the future viability of electromobility in the electric sector. Thus, data about the charging strategies and the urban mobility profile are collected to model the load curve of EVs. Futhermore, a case study is performed in the software OpenDSS using the Ckt 5 distribution system to determine the behavior of the distribution system in response to the integration of electric vehicles. The impacts are estimated in a ten years horizon, allowing to perform a technical analysis considering different charging strategies: direct, valley and controlled. Among these strategies, the controlled charging had less negative impact in the distribution system during the analysis time.
