Demonstrator of Precoding Technique for a Multi-Beams Satellite System

In this document, we present a real-time demonstrator of precoding technique, to be used to enable full frequency reuse in the forward link of future multi-beam satellite systems. To this aim, our demonstrator will implement all the functionalities required to correctly exploit the achievable gain coming from the usage of precoding. In particular, the main functionality to be included on the User Terminal (UT) side is the proper collection of the estimated Channel State Information (CSI). On the Gateway (GW), a computationally-efficient calculation of the precoding matrix and application of the resulting precoder to the vectors of symbol streams, have to been developed. Using this demonstrator we are able to prove the feasibility of precoding implementation in satellite communications relying on the superframe framing structure defined in Annex E of the DVB-S2X standard.
