Upper limits of passive radar target detection improvement through removal of noise from reference signal

In the paper the influence of presence of noise in the reference signal on signal processing algorithms of a passive radar is analyzed through a comparison with results for noiseless reference signal. As a result upper limits of improvements resulting from noise removal in terms of cross-ambiguity function computation and clutter cancellation are derived. The obtained maximal achievable benefits from reference signal noise cancellation are analyzed in context of reference signal reconstruction.
