Using 4C/ID for Teaching Conceptual Modelling

Conceptual modelling remains a challenging discipline for educators at every academic level. The learning process should involve a substantial number of practical exercises, both at the level of basic skills, such as remembering notation, and at the level of complex abstract tasks, such as analyzing requirements and building class diagrams. This tutorial aims at demonstrating and exploring the use of the four-component instructional design model (4C/ID), for teaching conceptual modelling, as a means to create a balanced course allowing for sufficient practice of modelling-related skills, as well as building a solid theoretical knowledge basis. The tutorial is designed for educators teaching modelling both in the higher education and the industrial settings.
