Compact Pulsed Magnets Designed for an 800 GHz, 2th Harmonics Gyrotron

This paper proposes the design of compact pulsed magnets for high frequency gyrotrons. The geometry of the magnet is determined by the optimization of the magnetic field profile. With 12 layers of helices reinforced by zylon fibers, the pulsed magnet provides a magnetic field of 14.8 T for the 800 GHz gyrotron operating at the second harmonics. The pulse duration can be as much as 165 ms, and a pitch factor of 1.32 and a transverse velocity spread of 5.12% were obtained with the given electron gun geometry.
