A New Design of Multi-band Antenna Array for 5G Cellular Phones Applications

In this manuscript a novel design and analysis of a multi-band antenna array for the prospective 5G mobile handset was proposed. The proposed antenna is designed on a Rogers RT5880 substrate with thickness of 0.8 mm and permittivity of 2.2 with over all dimensions of 5 × 6 × 0.8 mm3 to operate at 24.25GHz, 26GHz and 28 GHz which is under consideration for 5G wireless communications. The linear phased array antenna is constituted by ten elements of proposed antenna printed on the top side of the smartphone PCB. The obtained results show that the proposed phased array antenna has a good gain, suitable efficiency, and good beam steering characteristics in the operating bands, which makes it suitable for millimeter-wave 5G communications.
